This is a high resolution satellite image that was captured by GOES EAST. This image displays the massive plumes of smoke associated with the wildfires in Arizona and Mexico. Nearly 400,000 acres have burned already. This image was captured around 8:00 p.m. (local time) on Thursday. This is an excellent image for those studying remote sensing or learning more about satellite weather data. If you look to the right of the image you can see the billowing cumulus clouds associated with strenghtening thunderstorms over the Plains states. You can easily see the different patterns between smoke and thunderstorms.
