An easterly flow has setup over Alabama thanks to high pressure parked over the Mid-Atlantic. The drier air that has been in place is keeping sunshine mainly west of I-65, but a cloud deck has developed across Gadsden, Anniston, Pell City, and Talladega. Expect the mugginess to increase a bit in the coming days. We are not expecting any rain between now and Sunday. But, depending on the track of a low in the Gulf of Mexico - we could see some beneficial rain by Labor Day.
Farther in the Atlantic, we are watching Tropical Storm Katia. Katia is expected to strengthen into a hurricane, but the latest forecast model runs are turning the storm sharply to the north before it reaches the United States.
