We want to thank Fox 6 Weather Watcher Rick Freeman for sharing this incredible picture today. Although the anniversary is still a week away, we wanted to add this post in memory of those 22 victims from the March 27, 1994 Palm Sunday tornado outbreak. On that day severe weather began around 9 AM and continued into the nighttime hours. There were multiple tornadoes in Alabama on that date. One of the tornadoes was the F-4 that crossed into Cherokee County around 11:35 AM and destroyed Goshen United Methodist Church. This is located about a mile and half north of the Cherokee/Calhoun County line. There were 20 fatalities and over 90 injuries in that one area. Sadly, the EF-4 that had crossed Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, and St. Clair Counties on April 27th also impacted this area. I spoke to storm victims that had lost their home on March 27th 1994 and April 27th 2011 because of violent tornadoes.
