A line of strong to severe thunderstorms continues to push into eastern sections of the area this afternoon. At the time of this update, the heaviest storm in our area was impacting southwest Clay County. This was not a severe storm but one with heavy rain and lots of lightning.
A severe thunderstorm watch remains in place for Coosa, Tallapoosa, and Chambers counties through 5:00 PM. A new watch has been issued for the Tennessee Valley through 9PM; however, Cullman County is not in this watch.
Another Round of Storms Possible: As the complex of storms and rain slides east we will begin to focus on additional development upstream. More heavy storms are now developing near the main upper low positioned over northwest Mississippi. This disturbance will be dropping southeast over the next 6-12 hours and this will bring another round of storms during the evening hours. We’ll have to watch out for some big time hail production out of these cells because of the colder air aloft. Be sure to join us at 2PM on Fox 6 for a top of the hour update!
