April 27th, 2011 reminded us that it's best to have multiple ways of receiving emergency weather information. We can tell viewers are taking that message very serious! This spring season we have programmed nearly 10,000 weather radios at various Walgreens Locations. (Picture: Tuscaloosa EOC)
I wanted to share some of our web based resources that include interactive radar data and additional watch/warning information, check out these sources:
HAVE MULTIPLE WAYS TO RECEIVE WARNINGS
- Have a NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio on hand with fresh batters and make sure the alert switch is in the ON position. Keep it plugged up with batteries as your fail safe just in case of a power outage.
- If you have a smart phone Imap Weather Radio is a great APP that can alert you. This can be downloaded at myfoxal.com/apps. We also have an App for Ipad, Droid, and Blackberry. Our Fox 6 Weather App is free and it includes a street level radar display.
- FOX 6 WBRC TV-We will be there to provide severe weather alerts if watches and warnings are issued. If tornado warnings are issued we will break in with non-stop coverage to let you know where the storm is going.
- RADIO PARTNERS-You can get severe weather updates, including live FOX6 severe weather coverage, on the following Clear Channel radio stations in west and central Alabama: Tuscaloosa: 94.1 ZBQ, 98.1 TXT, News Radio 105.9, and WACT 1420 AM, Birmingham: Magic 96.5, 102.5 The Bull, 103.7 The Q, News Radio 105.5 WERC, 103.1 The Vulcan, 104.1 The Beat, and 105.1 Hallelujah.
- ALABAMA SAFE-T-NET: Alabama SAF-T-Net® (Specific Alerting for Threats) is your personal weather siren, a fully automatic and patented weather alerting system that uses text messages, email or phone calls to warn you ahead of the storm–only when you're affected. All you have to do is sign up here: http://myfoxal.com/safe
- To get severe weather alerts to your cell phone via text message, please visit www.myfoxal.com/alerts to subscribe. Message and data rates may apply.
- DO NOT RELY ON OUTDOOR SIRENS-These are for warning people outdoors and not designed for you to hear them while inside your home.
