As J-P mentions in a blog below, a severe thunderstorm watch may be issued soon for parts of Alabama.
A line of thunderstorms is approaching the Mississippi/Alabama border right now. These storms are producing heavy rain, frequent lightning, gusty winds (some probably over 60 mph), and maybe small hail. The strongest storms are near Meridian, MS and will move into Choctaw, Sumter, Greene, and Pickens counties shortly. The storm near Meridian was showing rotation earlier, and a tornado warning was in effect that has since expired.
These storms will likely weaken some as they cross into the more stable air currently in Alabama, but we can't be sure of that. Also, more thunderstorms with possible damaging winds may come in late tonight/early morning as the cold front comes in, so stay with us here on the blog and on the air with J-P, Wes, and myself.
