Summer arrived at 6:08pm with little fanfare this evening. I'm sure you didn't notice afterall it has felt like Summer for a month. Temperatures will slightly cooler today with the increase in moisture. It takes more energy to heat up moist air than dry air. Looks like we'll see plenty of sunshine over the next few days with our next chance of rain coming up on Friday. This is an incredibly small chance of rain courtesy of a front sliding down across the Tennesee Valley. The best chance for showers will remain north of I-20 and it's a small one at less than 10%
The big weather question is what's going to happen in the Gulf. The upper-level winds are mildly favorable to strengthen a tropical wave. Plenty of moisture is already spreading across Florida. The wave is currently between the Yucatan and Cuba. It looks like it will continue into the Gulf of Mexico where water temperatures are around 84 degrees. Our VIPIR model takes the low across Florida this weekend. High pressure here across the Southeast will keep the Low to the south.
The means we should see mainly dry weather across Alabama and its beaches. But, this is setting up to be quite a soaker for Florida. We'll continue to monitor the low and its track.
