Tonight's Mesoscale Convective System is packing a punch. We're see wind reports over 60mph with trees reported down in Lamar, Marion, and Fayette Counties. This complex of storms is an ugly one mainly due to the extreme instability today. We had dewpoint temperatures over 75 degrees. That is essentially fuel for the fire.
The severe thunderstorm watch for areas west of I-65 will be until 10pm. After that - I think most of these storms will lose steam. Plus - they are racing to the Southeast at 45mph taking them out of the Fox 6 viewing area within the next few hours.
These are serious storms with the ability to do as much damage as a small tornado. Heavy rain and localized flooding is also possible.
