Not since 2007 have we seen a run of hot temperatures like we're experienceing now with temperatures possibly reaching 106 over the weekend.
An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect from Cullman north to the Tennessee Valley with a Heat Advisory for the remainder of Central Alabama.
A Code Orange Ozone Alert continues Saturday for Jefferson/Shelby counties for poor air quality.
Fire dangers are high as well and the USDA Forest Service has issued a fire closure order for Alabama's four National Forests including Bankhead, Conecuh, Talladega and Tuskegee National Forests. This order prohibits use of fire, including campfires in any location of a National Forest outside developed recreation sites. Visitors are also restricted from using fireworks or pyrotechnic devices. The restrictions will remain in effect until August 31.
Stay well hydrated, avoid outdoor activities especially during the hottest part of the day, wear loose fitting, light colored clothing and be sure to keep a check on elderly neighbors, youngsters and be sure the pets have shelter from the heat and plenty of water.
