We may be looking at a few severe storms in Northwest Alabama later this afternoon/evening.
The Storm Prediction Center has expanded its slight risk to include West Alabama.
The main threat will be gusty winds, heavy rain, and lightning. My main concerns this afternoon will be Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Marion, and Lamar Counties. The storms will continue to slide southwest through the evening. A thunderstorm watch is in place that does include Lauderdale, Colbert, and Franklin Counties.
We're not expecting a tornado threat with this setup. The Storm Prediction Center is keeping the tornado risk for West Alabama at less than 2%.
Still - we may have some winds over 50mph. The storms will continue to impact mainly west Alabama through at least 9pm. Looks like we'll have another round of storms coming up Tuesday before the cold front blasts through the area. Expect much drier air behind the front with rain chances disappearing for a few days.
