Early tomorrow morning you will have an opportunity to view a meteor shower. The Delta Aquarid meteor shower can be observed between 1 AM and sunrise. The best time for viewing the meteors will be after moonset (approximately 1:17 AM).
Forecasters say 10-15 meteors per hour are possible as debris associated with Comet 96P/Machholz interacts with earth’s atmosphere. (Photo credit: NASA)
The best viewing conditions for this event are in the southern hemisphere and tropical latitudes. However, these meteors can be seen from Alabama, looking south during the pre-dawn hours. Early morning low clouds could make it increasingly difficult to see the meteors as sunrise time approaches. If you miss tonight's event you will have another opportunity to catch the Perseid Meteor shower in a couple of weeks.
