The storms that came through the Birmingham area, producing wind damage (especially NW of town), flooding (mainly south of town), and lightning, are moving toward Montgomery. A few storms are still rumbling around.
Another area of storms is moving through NW Alabama, and is approaching Smith Lake. The likelihood of widespread wind damage is not high with this one, since the atmosphere has already been worked over by other storms. However, we can't rule out some more downed trees.
Flooding is a major problem in some parts of BHM metro right now, especially in Pelham. With the new line of storms coming in sometime around 500 am, additional flooding could be a problem during the rush hour or before. Flooding is very dangerous at night because you can't see the road. If at all possible, avoid driving early this morning, as many roads are flooded, and you can't always tell how deep the water is, or whether the road is even still there. Don't take chances. There are also trees down on some roads. Use common sense and be very careful out there.
