(IR Satellite Image shows a band of clouds over central Alabama, marking the west edge of the ridge axis. This could serve as a focal point for rain and storm development by lunchtime.)
You can expect more hot and steamy conditions for today. Temperatures are rising quickly and by lunchtime the heat index will be in the mid 90s across the area. The high for today will be near 93, with scattered thunderstorms developing around lunchtime. A southerly breeze will be in place and this will provide some relief in shady areas. Tonight the rainfall activity will diminish, with lows in the middle 70s.
Temperatures through mid-week will be reaching the low to mid 90s. The good news is that rain chances will remain high, at-least for summer standards. Each day we will have increasing clouds in the afternoon hours, with scattered showers and thunderstorms possible. We are keeping an eye on a couple of features for the upcoming work-week. An upper level disturbance over the Atlantic is drifting towards the southeast. This will keep a good chance of afternoon storms in the mix through mid-week. A front will also be approaching from the north by Thursday and this will bring another good chance for a passing afternoon storm or shower.
I want to thank my friends in the Riverside community in Childersburg for allowing me to visit yesterday. I participated in their Trade Day event and Golf Tournament fundraiser. They are raising money for a community storm shelter… a very great cause.
