A Severe Thunderstorm watch continues through 7 PM for the following counties: Tuscaloosa, Pickens, Jefferson, Sumter, Greene, Hale, Bibb, Shelby, Chilton, Marengo, Perry, and Coosa.
At 4:30 PM we were tracking developing storms with frequent cloud to ground lightning over the Birmingham area. The most intense lightning was near Tarrant and Irondale. Other storms were forming over northern Tuscaloosa County and southwest Walker county (near Oakman).
Further southwest, a steady soaking rain was falling over Sumter, Greene, and Marengo counties. If travel plans take you southwest on I-20/59 between Tuscaloosa and Meridian, Mississippi, be ready for slow travel. Take it extra easy and be prepared for limited visibilities.
It was great seeing our viewers in Leeds today at the Shops at Grand River. J-P will be manning the booth through the rest of the afternoon. If you have a smart phone and need help installing weather Apps, the Storm Warn Team is here to help you. We can also help you program your NOAA Weather radio. This is our Back to School Weather Awareness Event and it continues through 7PM.
We will continue to keep a close eye on the storm development. Be sure to join us at the top of the hour for a radar and forecast update.
