Its been a very warm, cloudy, and windy day across the area. You can certainly to tell the atmosphere is growing unstable. The good news is that we don't expect the type of instability locally that will spark strong to severe thunderstorms. There is a slight risk for a few strong to severe storms over southeast Alabama and this threat should remain south of the Fox 6 coverage area today and tonight(See Graphic).
The big story for us will be heavy rainfall. Over the past few days we seen the rainfall outlook on this system blossom to a whole new level. I've included the latest precipitation guidance from the Hydrometeorological Predicition Center. This graphic includes the 1-3 day precipitation total across the southeast. By tomorrow afternoon we may be talking about some final rainfall amounts in the 2-3" range.
The following snapshot from VIPIR shows some patchy areas of rain now developing over west Alabama. We expect the heavier rain over western Mississippi and south Alabama to fill-in across our area during the afternoon and evening hours. Be ready for some wet weather for the drive home today.
