It was a perfect day to be outside with blue skies and comfortable afternoon temperatures. Some fast changes are taking place as a cold front rapisdly approaches Alabama. Winds will be on the increase this evening, with moisture levels on the rise. We’ve already noticed a 10 to 20 degree rise in dew points back over parts of Mississippi. A smiliar rise in dew points is expected around here and this will help fuel showers and thunderstorms.
We expect a line of rain and thunderstorms to reach West Alabama around midnight. Some of the storms may be quite strong or severe as they enter West Alabama. The main threats will be gusty straight-line winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes. As the storms continue east throughout the early morning hours they should gradually weaken. The RPM model has the line reaching Birmingham between 3 AM and 4 AM. By sunrise the line should be exiting East Alabama, with gradual clearing throughout the day. Another round of cool and dry weather will arrive for the final days of the week. Highs will be in the 70s, with lows in the 40s.
You still have time to come get your NOAA weather radio programmed at Walgreens. We will be at the location in Pelham through 6:30 PM.
