AlabamaQuake Seismic Station Detects High Winds Thursday Night

There has been lots of research related to seismic activity and high winds. We found this interesting observation posted by the staff at Alabamaquake.com. They note seismic signatures of the high winds in Huntsville.  Small micro-seismic signature were noted at the AlabamaQuake seismic station.

They note four pulses of strong winds. The first pulse was around 7:58 p.m. and the last pulse was around 9:09 p.m. They also explaint that the winds can be “seen” on the seismograph because as the tall trees in the neighborhood vicinity of the seismic station are blown about in the gusty conditions, the tree trunks vibrate slightly, and those vibrations are transmitted by the tree roots into the surrounding rocks and soil...very interesting.
