Most of the strong thunder died off before it got to Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, but there are still a lot of non-severe storms over central Alabama, from Demopolis and Marion to Shelby County. There is another line of heavy rain near the cold front over Jefferson County and east to Pell City and Cheaha. It rained 1/2" here in Trussville in about 15 minutes around 1130 pm.
Unfortunately, there is an unconfirmed report of a fatality in north Alabama due to a fallen tree.
There have been a few damage reports locally, including trees down in Blountsville, Shottsville, Vina, and Akron. Overall, a stormy night.
The cold air is coming in now, and by morning it will drop to near 50. Tomorrow will be sunny and cool. I'll be flying with JP for the first time ever tomorrow. I am scared when I fly in a 747, so flying in his Piper Cherokee (single engine, 4 seater) will be a real thrill but I am frightened a little! More on that tomorrow!
