We will be keeping a close eye on Invest 99L in the Atlantic over the coming days. Model data suggests this system will eventually track northwest towards Florida later this week. The system may become a Tropical Depression or Tropical Storm. There is a 50% chance of development over the next five days. I’ve included the latest map showing the various forecast model tracks.
The big question is will this system have any impacts in the Gulf region?
It is still too early to say for certain, but some data suggests possibilities of this system impacting and possibly crossing the state of Florida. You can see the one scenario from the European Model which shows a system over the western Gulf by August 31st. Needless to say, this is one we will need to closely monitor. Meanwhile, tropical depression seven formed over the far eastern Atlantic. This system is forecasted to strengthen into a hurricane over the coming days; however, this system will track further northwest over the central Atlantic. The next name on the 2016 list is Gaston. You can find the latest forecast tropical tracks on the WBRC First Alert Weather App. Go to radar layers and turn on tropical tracks.
