Birmingham reached 72 degrees at 2 pm, making it the 23rd day this meteorological winter (Dec, Jan, and Feb) that we have reached 70 or higher. That ties us for 2nd most all time. With three more by next Tuesday we will tie the record set in 1957. We will probably get at least one more tomorrow, and if the sun comes out it will approach 80, but then a cold front is coming through on Saturday morning, and temperatures will get colder, with high temperatures in the 50s and lows in the 30s.
I have seen azaleas, dogwoods, and other flowers blooming. I don't want these early flowers to die, but we really need a freezing cold snap before March is over to help the trees be more healthy, especially fruit trees like peaches and apples, and we need to kill some more bugs.
It looks like we have a couple of opportunities for cold snaps late next week into the following week, and one of them could drop us into the 20s next weekend.
